[challenge] Stump Me

Because I can never have enough on my plate. Taken from tsuki_neesan and modified because if I didn't, you would kill me.

A) Go to my fics and pick out a line or two from one of my stories. These stories can only be from the months of June to December.

B) I will respond with which story I think it's from.

C) Points and a mini-drabble (that's a few lines, by my definition) to anyone who stumps me

It wasn't in Working Relations, I just guessed wrong :P I decided to go with your first choice if not just because it's been so long since I've done anything FF7.

Winter was coming. You could hear it in the windows and see it in the bend of the trees. Winter brought down cold winds from the mountain, blowing through the town like a geographical wind tunnel. It rattled the old houses and loose shingles and tore anything loose into the sky.

It was the time of year she’d find Cid standing on top of the roof. Sometimes he’d lean into the wind, cursing at it and laughing, sometimes he’d just sit there and memorize how the wind flowed over him. Sometimes he’d even lean way over the edge of the roof, arms outstretched and dipping like he was the Tiny Bronco fighting a jet stream.

Shera thought it was silly, just as she thought it showed the genius of the man. He understood every action of the wind not because he was a man of pure intelligence. He knew it like he knew every bit of the Highwind or the Bronco, or even his spear. Because he was in every little cranny, saw and felt and breathed over each scratch and inch. He immersed himself into the wind and, in return, it whispered all its little secrets to him.

He was the wind’s intangible lover. But the wind knew that he didn’t belong to it just as it didn’t belong to him. And in each little rattle of the window and the dance of the wilted buds in the flower box the wind told Shera to keep him safe and love him in the ways it couldn’t.

Right now it told her to add a bit more whiskey to his tea and bring him inside before he froze to death.
