It's been... tentative to say the least. And even if they're officially together it just... really doesn't feel like it. And Shinji's pushed him hard enough to get them where they are now to comfortably push for more. Even if he is irritate at the lack of action.
It is, however, a shock when Kensei comes up to him looking annoyed.
"Don't lie." He says a little brusquely. "That new lieutenant you promoted, you were checkin' him out, weren't you?"
At first Shinji doesn't know what to say. Yes, he was checking the man out, but that was because after the promotion Shinji had asked him where he bought the pants he was wearing and not because there was anything particularly attractive about him. However he answers with, "Are you upset about it?"
This time it's Kensei that doesn't know what to say and his mouth moves with no sound to accompany it. Finally he clicks his mouth shut, looks away, looks at Shinji, rubs at his face, turns and walks away.
Alone, Shinji slumps in his seat. He wonders if he had forced the issue a little too much.
"Can't get enough of your love, babe," Jyuushirou sings under his breathe, organizing his books as the tune rumbles through his head. "I get the same old feelin' everytime you're here, I feel the change, something moves, I scream your name, look what you got me doin'. Darling, I can't get- whoa!"
He's pulled backward, arms wrapped double around his waist and trapping him against a familiar warmth he knows all too well. "Why, Jyuu-chan!" Shunsui smells fresh and vaguely like coffee. "If you really think that, you could've just said so!" His tease is low and deliciously promising. "I would never deny anything you need!"
Shinji's been at his desk for almost an hour, just starin at the packet sitting in front of him. He doesn't need to look inside it because he already knows the information it contains- the one that strikes too close to home, information that threatens his own family.
It's ironic, it truly is. And Shinji has to wonder if Kyouraku felt the same why when he was forced to bring the older man's family into the situation as well.
Except... it was a little different, wasn't it? After all, Shinji's family is all around him, in the constant threat of danger at all times while Kyouraku's is just normal people trying to get by with their daily lives. Shinji knows that every time any of his family leaves there's always a chance they could get hurt or found out but somehow- being blatantly threatened -makes it all the more real.
Shinji's grip on his chair tightens and he looks to the phone. Slowly, with all that information and that cold, fearsome feeling in his lungs, he reaches for it, dials Hiyori's number and calls her home.
