Summary: Takes place between leaving Loguetown and the pact.

Going Merry rocked unsteadily in the curtained rain, drifting far from the chaotic lights of Loguetown.

“Oi, Luffy!”

With a hand securely on his hat, Luffy turned at his name. “Oh, Nami! What’s up?”

A punch in the head was his first answer.

“YOU IDIOT!”

“Itteee~! What’s the big idea?”

“I should be asking you that!” Nami crossed her arms, frowning down at her captain. “Sanji-kun and Zoro told me about what happened at the execution platform.”

For a moment Luffy just blinked up at her. “Ah, you mean with the clown guy and the club lady and the Marines? Yeah, that surprised me, too! I didn’t think they’d-“

“Not that! I’m talking about you giving up!”

There was another long pause.

“Giving up?”

Nami’s expression turned pensive. “They said that you were just going to let them kill you.”

“Well they had me pinned. I couldn’t do anything.”

“And that’s an excuse to give up??” She flung rain from her face. “Are you that selfish!?”

Water trickled from the brim of Luffy’s hat. “Selfish? What’re you talking about?”

“We’re entrusting you with our dreams and you were just going to throw it all away!”

Lightening crashed over the distant Loguetown.

“You don’t get it, do you?” Nami asked, her voice barely audible over the lashing of the storm. “It’s because of you that we have the strength to follow our dreams. If you died, what are we supposed to do?”

“Keep going after your dreams, of course!” Luffy said resolutely- as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.

“But if the strongest person we’ve ever believed in loses his dream how are we supposed to keep going?” Nami knelt down next to Luffy, putting a hand against his arm. “We’re gambling our lives and our dreams on you, we’re trusting you to keep them safe. No matter what else we may think of you, we believe that you’ll be the Pirate King. But if you can just give up- just like that –what does that say about us? How do you think that makes us feel knowing you’re letting this crew’s hopes die like that?”

For a long moment Luffy looked at her- really LOOKED. Then he took the hand that rest on his arm and told her: “Your dreams are your dreams, my dreams are mine. They just happen to lead to the same place. Don’t give your dreams up to anyone for any reason.”

His grip was warm and tight, but gentle in a way that was rare and Luffy. “But… You’re the strongest person I know. If you can’t fulfill your dream it feels like mine is just a waste.” She looked up at him. “It makes me feel weak.”

“You’re not weak. No one on this ship is weak.” Luffy’s face split into a huge grin. “No matter what happens, keep going forward. That’s the only thing we can do.”

And with a determined grip and her own smile, Nami said, “Then it’s a pact. No one can turn from their dreams and no one can give up on another’s.”

“Right!” Luffy jumped to his feet. “Oi~! Everyone! We’re going to the Grand Line! We’re going for our dreams!”

The crew gathered around a barrel and on top of it they placed that first step forward. From now on if someone faltered, someone else would pick them up. From now on there was no turning back.

Ee~! I understood it! *cackles*

I liked this! <3 I think you got Luffy's character very well done in here (course I might not be the best judge in the world) and Nami-Luffy interaction is...eee~!

I think what i liked best about this is that if fit seamlessly with the actual episode, so it felt like it was something that might have been included originally and then simply cut out for time constraints. If that makes any sense. ^^;
