Summary: Future!verse, no real spoilers for anything. With more than 50 sentences because I suck at real one liners.
#01 – Comfort
It used to bother Shikamaru that Kiba would let Akamaru sleep on their bed whenever he was out on an overnight mission. But when he’d shoo the dog from his spot, he couldn’t help but be grateful that it was pre-warmed.
#02 – Kiss
The worst part about going out with Kiba was that all the girls kept asking what it was like to kiss someone with fangs. Shikamaru would never admit that, while the fangs made kissing a little sloppy, they created interesting sensations running down his body.
#03 – Soft
He didn’t mean to call Kiba ‘soft’, it was the only way Shikamaru could think to explain why he felt so comfortable with his head pillowed on the other boy’s stomach.
#04 – Pain
Kiba was an irritable patient, especially whenever he was confined to his bed or his quarters- especially being told to stay in bed. But he’d always be compliant if he had Shikamaru’s heart beating under his cheeks (especially after a good snogging, but being lulled by his heartbeat was enough).
#05 – Potatoes
Watching over the family herd was the worst, especially during the cold winter months. Shikamaru’s only reprieve during these long days where when Kiba would sit with him, sharing the sweet potatoes his sister roasted earlier that day.
#06 – Rain
Despite rain having washed out the scent, Kiba could track just as efficiently on sight and intuition alone. When his team caught up with Shikamaru’s squad, limping back from a difficult mission, he was never more grateful for the talent.
#07 – Chocolate
When Shikamaru forgot to give Kiba chocolates for Valentines Day, he claimed it was because chocolate was poisonous to dogs. Kiba just whacked him in the face with a pillow and called him a stingy bastard.
#08 – Happiness
Happiness to Kiba was stretching out on a sun-soaked meadow for a little nap. Happiness to Shikamaru was watching him.
#09 – Telephone
It was two in the morning when the phone rang and Shikamaru was still at his desk, sorting through reports. When the voice on the other end asked him what he was wearing, he slammed the receiver back down on the cradle.
#10 – Ears
It had to have been one of Kiba’s odder kinks, draping himself over Shikamaru’s lap and demanding he scratch behind his ears.

“Inuzuka Shikamaru- it’s got a ring to it.”
“Since when was I the woman in this relationship?”

What Kiba liked best about Shikamaru was the fact that the other boy had no idea how sexy he really was. But then there were times- like now, when Shikamaru has a pen in his mouth that he’s idly nibbling on and twirling with his tongue –where Kiba’s certain he’s just faking the ignorance.

Kiba looked at Shikamaru’s report- which he was supposed to be turning in RIGHT NOW and luckily hadn’t noticed that Kiba had just found –and then at Akamaru- who still had part of the report dangling between his teeth –and knew he’d be dead the moment he said the dog ate his report.

Everyone was convinced that because of Shikamaru’s completely disinterested personality he’d be a cold fish in bed. Kiba was convinced he was disinterested because he was saving his energy for bed.

Kiba loved Shikamaru’s hairstyle simply for the fact the other boy’s one blatant weak point was where his spine crept under his hairline and Kiba loved running his nails over it just to hear him whimper.

Shikamaru pushed himself during missions because- while he was a brilliant strategist –he was almost always the most physically weak of the group. Kiba wasn’t nearly as smart, but he made sure his own brute strength and skills covered for Shikamaru’s weakness.

There were still many things Shikamaru felt no need to share with Kiba. And when he’d go to his family’s deer field to mourn the passing of another teammate he failed to save, Kiba knew his grief was one of them.
#18 – Speed
Kiba always prided himself on his speed. But no matter how fast he went, Shikamaru thought faster and Kiba never failed to be impressed whenever he stepped in the other boy’s trap.

In their relationship Kiba was undeniably the romantic, but when Shikamaru could’ve sworn he heard Kiba whispering his name on the wind, he had a feeling Kiba’s romanticism was rubbing off on him.
#20 – Freedom
All his life Kiba wanted to become a member of ANBU, but when he received the application to join it came with a booklet; the first thing it said was he would have to cut off all ties to his friends and family during his time in the ANBU ranks. When Shikamaru asked why he was ripping up the application, Kiba simply stated he liked doing things his own way.

Kiba grinned sleepily and said life couldn’t get much better than this. Shikamaru, pinned beneath him, thought life could get MUCH better if the heavy idiot would let him BREATH.
#22 – Jealousy
“I know you don’t like sharing and I know you’ve already laid claim on me but I swear to god, Kiba, if you go so far as to piss on me to keep people away, I will kill you.”
#23 – Hands
Whenever Shikamaru gets anxious he forms seals, half the time not even aware that he’s doing it. Whenever Kiba catches him doing it, he pulls Shikamaru’s hands apart and kisses each finger and his palms until Shikamaru clutches at him, desperate for a distraction.
#24 – Taste
Kiba smelled like cloves and smoke, but he tasted like sweat and earth. Shikamaru wasn’t entirely certain how it worked out, but he was taking his time deciphering the mystery.
#25 – Devotion
They rarely showed affection in public, but whenever Shikamaru made a decision- no matter who else disagreed with him –Kiba always stood by him and that was proof enough for everyone.
#26 – Forever
Though they are young, they know the concept of forever doesn’t apply to them, even the promise of tomorrow is a stretch. But when Kiba swears that he will always love him, Shikamaru never doubts it.
#27 – Blood
Because of Kiba’s keen sense of smell Shikamaru can never hide any wounds from him. But what always throws Shikamaru off is that no matter how small the wound, seeing any blood on Shikamaru always makes Kiba’s hands shake.
#28 – Sickness
Shikamaru just leans against the sink, a towel in hand and tells Kiba whose head is over the toilet bowl, “This why I tell you not to go out drinking with Naruto.”
#29 – Melody
Ino tried to convince them to have a ‘song’ that they shared, but they so rarely even agreed on what genre of music to listen to that it became a short-lived endeavor. The only sound they both loved was that of the wind through autumn trees.

Shikamaru frowned where the outstretched finger pointed, “Kiba, that ‘star’ is called Venus.”
“Well it’s gonna be ours, anyway.”
#31 – Home
It’s a tiny apartment where the kitchen and living room and entrance are practically in the same room. But when they move in and Kiba drags a not entirely protesting Shikamaru to help christen their new bedroom, they know it’s home.
#32 – Confusion
Ino asked him once why he was with, of all people, Kiba and Shikamaru told her he let the boy in one day and he just never left. Ino paused before she changed the subject and Shikamaru wasn’t entirely certain he understood the answer, either.
#33 – Fear
“Kiba, it’s just an immunization shot, it’s not surgery now get out from under the bed!”
#34 – Lightning/Thunder
“Don’t need no back up- got Mr. Thun’er an’ Mr. Lightenin’ right ‘ere.”
Shikamaru pulls Kiba away from the rather large group of angry looking men saying, “What did I tell you about drinking with Naruto?”

It took a moment until the significance of the collar and leash that suddenly fell into his lap made it’s way into Shikamaru’s head. He looked up at Kiba and utterly failed to keep a straight face when he called him a freak.

When the most flattering things Kiba could say about Shikamaru’s personality to the vendor was ‘lazy’, ‘apathetic’ and ‘easily annoyed but incredibly brilliant’ the vendor replied jokingly, “Sounds like a keeper, but we’re a men’s store- we don’t carrying things for women.”
Kiba just blinked back and said, “What woman?”
#37 – Technology
Kiba and Shikamaru sat in their living room, looking depressed and mentally exhausted. “It’s just a watch,” Kiba exclaimed at the two-inch thick piece of hardware that sat on his wrist, “how hard can it be to set the damned time?”
#38 – Gift
When Akamaru left a dead rabbit on Shikamaru’s pillow the boy somehow knew he was being accepted into the family.
#39 – Smile
He knew that smile on Kiba’s face- the smile that meant he was about to cause trouble to someone. And as Shikamaru had just left the shower wrapped in a towel he had a pretty good idea what sort of trouble he was planning.
#40 – Innocence
When they stopped hesitating during missions when they were 13, both of them figured their innocence was long gone. It wasn’t until Shikamaru sat next to Kiba’s bed where he was stuck with needles and hooked up to monitors that Shikamaru realized they were just being naïve.
#41 – Completion
Neither boy was sappy enough to claim the other completed him. But they couldn’t ignore that empty feeling they got whenever they were apart.
#42 – Clouds
Shikamaru loved watching clouds ever since he was a toddler. Until Kiba started laying down next to him and twisted each one into a sexual position.

It wasn’t until the tenth time Shikamaru explained why the sky was blue that he realized the only reason Kiba asked him involved questions was because he liked the sound of Shikamaru’s voice. Kiba just grinned back and said, “Took ya long enough.”

A passing missionary said during his roadside rhetoric that animals couldn’t go into the Kingdom of Heaven and Kiba said that if he couldn’t spend eternity with his best friend, than religion and God were worthless to him. Shikamaru told the man that if Kiba refused to enter his Heaven, there was no reason for him to strive for it, either.

“Ya know that level of Hell where people gotta eat their own shit? That’s what I feel like right now.”
“You know, by now pointing out what I always say about drinking and Naruto isn’t worth it anymore.”

In a drunken stupor, Kiba promised Shikamaru the sun, gift wrapped and tied off with a bow. Shikamaru woke him up at daybreak with a bucket of ice water and called him an idiot.

Shikamaru couldn’t help liking Kiba in the moonlight- it reflected off his wide grins and eyes like a Cheshire cat.

Kiba never realized the way the wind raced through the tall grass resembled waves on the ocean, but then when he has Shikamaru sleeping against his shoulder, he finds time to be amazed by the little things.

Kiba makes an idle comment that Shikamaru’s hair was too nice to just pull back in a ponytail. Shikamaru replied that if he was going to start that up, too, he wouldn’t be able to play with it again.

“It’s not beautiful- it’s a star exploding and most likely taking out any planet that revolved around it.”
Kiba snorted and dragged Shikamaru into his chest saying, “You say the nicest things, jackass.”
