Summary: Semi-companion piece to Reminisce. Years pass and things don’t really change much.
Even now Ichigo still slept light. That is, so long as it was still midday and he hadn’t intended to fall asleep in the first place. The hand barely shook his shoulder before he woke up with a snort.
Large eyes on a small face peered up at him. “Grandpa? There’s someone here to see you.”
“Eh?” He rubbed at the drool the dried on his chin. “Fine, whatever.”
The littler girl wandered away and in her place came another girl, just as tiny as ever. Ichigo scowled. “You? Weren’t you just here?”
Rukia frowned at the old man. “A year ago. I see age hasn’t soured your personality one bit, Ichigo.”
“Well whaddya doin’ here?” He shifted in his favorite chair, back popping gratefully. “Tryin’ to get outta work now that you’ve finally become an officer?”
“I took some time off.”
“And you came here?” Ichigo had to squint through his glare. “You must’ve been bored.”
“I came to see an old friend.” Rukia shot back. “But since he’s apparently out right now I’ve come to see if changing a full grown man is different from changing a baby.”
“I ain’t that old yet!” He snapped. With one last scowl, Ichigo settled in again. “Has it really been a year?”
“Yup.”
“Huh. Doesn’t seem like it. Amazing you’ve come in a gigai, though.”
“Well, you know me,” Rukia took a seat nearby, “making you look crazy is reserved for special occasions.”
“Old.” Ichigo corrected. “Old people are expected to talk to themselves.”
“I’m older than you are and I don’t talk to myself.”
“And I actually age so it’s a moot point.”
Finally Rukia gave in and smiled brightly. “It’s good to see you again, Ichigo.
He grinned at her just as fondly. “Same here.”

Unohaha: To remind Zaraki-taichou that just because one old man dies does not mean that he needs to attempt to kill every other shinigami in Sereitei.
Ah, how they amuse. You should write that. Not that, but something like, "Death of an Ex-Shinigami" or something.
