“Jyuushiro, Shunsui. I’ve called the two of you here on a very important matter.”
“Oh?” Kyouraku tilted his kasa back off his forehead. “Are we finishing up our fight?”
The captain-general folded his gnarled fingers together. “I’m afraid I’ve decided to set aside the issue of your betrayal for something a little more pressing.”
“How very kind and uncharacteristic of you.”
“Strange times, indeed.” Yamamoto returned coolly.
Ukitake finally spoke up. “What is it you wish to discuss?”
“No doubt you are both familiar with Kurosaki.” The two captains nodded, already aware the direction this conversation was heading. “For such a powerful person to share the same name and many of the same traits- it is of no mere coincidence.”
Ukitake nodded, crossing his arms. “We’ve been able to contain the talk about it among the lower ranks. The boy himself doesn’t even seem aware of it.”
“Good, good.” But Yamamoto’s eyes cracked open a sliver. “Of course you know we cannot merely let something like this slip by us. He is in contact with both Kurosaki and Urahara.”
Kyouraku kept his expression carefully blank at the names of their two old friends. “What would you have us do?”
“They should be located and, to some extent, monitored. Especially after the recent events. We shall use the boy toward this end.” From out of his great sleeve, Yamamoto pulled out a pentagon imprinted with a skull. “R&D created this especially for the situation. Jyuushiro, as captain of his friend the boy will be more inclined to trust you than any of the other captains. It has the capabilities to detect Hollows and separate his soul from his body. He will be under the impression he is being sanctioned.”
Though not liking the idea of abusing the boy’s trust, Ukitake understood the need for the action and accepted the task with a nod.
The captain-general gave his former students a long look. “Gentlemen, I know that these two were once comrades. But, times being as they are, things must be done.”

Date: 2005-11-30 09:35 am (UTC)I hadn't thought old Yama might be behind it -- but then again, I don't think very much, just do a lot of meaningless squeeing -- but this works. It really does.
