Title: Elusive
Fandom: Bleach
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 295
Characters: Hitsugaya and Aizen
Summary: Spoiler of chapter 170. The irony of it somewhat amuses me.
“Congratulations on your promotion, Hitsugaya-kun. Ah, my apologies. Hitsugaya-taichou.”
The boy looked up and smiled slightly. “Thank you, Aizen-taichou.”
“It’s very rare for someone to become division captain without first being a vice-captain. You’re very talented.”
Hitsugaya looked down, still unused to all the compliments and congratulations he was given. “It’s nothing.”
Aizen laughed gently. “Of course. I’m sorry for embarrassing you. You’ve probably had enough of such words.”
The boy shook his head. “It’s not that. I’m just… not used to it.”
“Well,” a light hand was placed fatherly atop his head, “I’m afraid you’ll have to.” Hitsugaya looked at Aizen in surprise. “As captain, you’ll be getting a lot of responsibility and you’ll have to deal with the admiration of your division.”
Hitsugaya’s face softened under Aizen’s warm smile. Not long ago, it seemed, he wondered about the man that Hinamori had become so enthralled with. He didn’t understand how someone could dominate one’s thoughts so fully. But, standing next to the man and feeling the calmness of his presence, Hitsugaya couldn’t help but enjoy the parental smiles and kind words he received.
There was something in the back of Aizen’s eyes, Hitsugaya noted vaguely, that seemed elusive. As if he knew things Hitsugaya didn’t. Something wonderful and that everything was right with the world.
Hitsugaya had never felt so calm.
~*~*~*~
His body felt cold and he couldn’t believe that this wasn’t some sort of horrible, insane nightmare.
“Hi… Hina…mori…”
He couldn’t focus his mind. Every breath was a painful labor, so numb his hands couldn’t even shake. Hitsugaya turned. Turned in disbelief to the man Hinamori loved, to the man he admired so much. To the man who fooled them all.
Aizen stood there and watched him with his elusive smile.
