He was so tired. Just so numb. He didn't want to move, didn't want to think; couldn't feel anything around him, inside him. He just wanted... nothing. Wanted just to curl up in nothingness and let the emptiness slowly eat away at him until he faded away. But something kept tugging at the edge of his brain, something that's been whispering at him since that weird lady came to him. Something that he kind of thought sounded like her. He didn't know what it was, but the more he was aware of it, the more it gripped him, curling into his head and brushing life back into his blood until he lay there, still tired and still numb, but knowing he had to move. That he needed to move. To do something to rid himself of that itch, that ghost urging him on.

He pushed his arms under him, trembling and threatening to collapse with every inch until he was on his feet, moving like a disjointed puppet on tangled strings. He needed... he needed something. To get out. Get away. Get back to... somewhere. Or someone. He didn't know anything anymore, just that urge that wouldn't let him waste away.

There was a radio transmission nearby. He could feel it. It prickled along his skin and buzzed between his ears and for a brief moment it felt like his whole body was vibrating. He followed it, shambling along the wall and there- where there shouldn't have been -was an opening. The outside world was cold and bleak, a wasteland of snow so harsh it hurt his eyes. But he could feel the transmission even stronger out there. So much that it felt like he could reach out and touch it and he didn't even have to think, just let the waves wrap around him and carry him-

He was on his hands and knees in the snow, staring down at his arms like they weren't his. He couldn't remember his armor being so blue, but he couldn't remember a lot of things these days and when he turned he couldn't see the base, just giant walls of ice towering overhead. He struggled to his feet, trying to think, trying to move. There might have been voices but he wasn't sure, fading away until it was just static that no longer registered. He didn't know where he was going, where he even was, just one foot following the other. Always one following the other. On and on until the ice walls shrank and grew and snow starting building up in the crooks of his limbs until it hurt to feel and until he couldn't feel the hurt anymore.

He just kept going until the white blur of the world turned gray and then black.

He woke up, not entirely certain that he did or that he never was, looking at a ceiling that was an unfamiliar, dull color. He was in a bed and he couldn't remember the last time he'd ever been in one. Couldn't remember the last time he'd rested at all.

"Awake now, are we? CO'd be glad to hear that- got a lotta questions for ya. Funny kinda armor ya got, too. Never seen a helmet like that, before."

He tried getting his hands under him, shaking and burning and the lights made everything a smear of blurry color.

"Hey- hey there, buddy. Just relax. We got you taken care of." A mug of something was placed in his hands and it wasn't steaming but it still felt almost too hot to touch. Someone sat down on the edge of the bed, grin on a face he couldn't recognize. "All Blues here. Name's Jimmy."

"I..." he tried to think through the fog of his head, tried to remember what that state lady called him. "I'm Church."
