ajremixI don't write enough from Carolina's perspective. Especially when it comes to figuring out how her relationship with York would work.

Summary: Carolina contemplates her relationship and middle grounds.
She traced her hand lightly down York's back and it was one of the rare, rare days when Carolina was content to stay in bed and think instead of going about her day with unerring precision and purpose.
She lived her life in black and white. Her goals and actions were clearly defined even before she knew what she needed to do. There was no room for doubt, no room for error. Just win or lose, do or die, succeed or fail and nothing ever got in her way. It was why Carolina didn't like gray areas. They confused her, turned her clarity to mud and made her second guess her decisions, herself. She didn't understand how anyone could exist in that undefined space without losing who they were and yet York thrived in it. He wielded the differing tints with their shifting meanings as if he could see their edges clear-cut before him. He confused her. He intrigued her. She could read his actions before he made them, knew what his responses would be from the tilt of his head, the shape of his lips, but she couldn't fathom his motivations, the things that triggered his actions. She wondered if that was why she started this- as a means to understand. Yet she was no closer to the answer, was only dragged deeper into everything York was by tender touches and wicked smiles, by his compassionate nature and calculated ruthlessness, by his open contradictions until Carolina realized she had no words to define what they were. All the words she knew were either too impersonal or too intimate and she knew nothing of the in-between.
For the first time, black and white didn't suit Carolina, wanting to find some middle ground for her to stabilize her feet in that fluid gray that York traversed so freely. For the first time, Carolina wanted to follow where someone else lead.
