Summary: Tex and Church's relationship was always difficult, even when they weren't actually dating.

The fact that she was standing outside the classroom and looking straight at him set off warning bells in Church's head. Tex did not do the dutiful girlfriend thing (which, frankly, skeeved Church anyway so he was glad) and the fact that they were currently in the 'off' portion of their relationship was a sure sign that she wanted something that was not a quick make-out session in an abandoned classroom.

So he went about packing his things up, deliberately slowly just to piss her off When he approached he asked, "Don't you have class?"

"My last class was two doors down and my next one is with you, dumbass."

Well gee- why did they ever break up again? Church shouldered his bag and glared, "What do you want, Tex?"

"God, I forgot what a fucking dick you are."

"Considering you're the undisputed Bitch on Campus: like I give a shit."

Genuine anger flashed in her eyes- not severe enough that she was ready to throw punches, but enough that she was actually a little hurt by that. Despite his better judgment, Church felt his shriveled little heart waver. "Look, Tex-" A small, wrapped box being shoved forcibly into his chest cut the rest of the sentence off with an 'oomph!'

"Whatever, jackass," she snapped. "Happy fucking anniversary." She spun on her heel and stomped off in a flurry of pleated skirt and iron-toed boots.

Church stared after her stupidly, trying to make sense of what anniversary she was talking about. This date last year was his first day at the Academy, the day he first met Tex when she accidentally swung a door into his face. The day he first impressed her when, instead of cowering and slinking about his way as anyone else would have done, he swore at her until blood stopped dripping out his nose.

The day they first started that year-long dance of yes-and-no that was their relationship.

"Oh, fuck me," he said to no one in particular. He took off running, "Tex- wait up!"

Their next class was just English Lit and there were plenty of empty rooms in this part of the school. Seemed like the perfect time to switch their relationship back to 'yes'.
