Summary: Tex likes pressing Carolina's buttons.
They were subtle in a way that was sweet and also sickening when looked at from the other angle. Their relationship was obvious enough that no one tried to get between them but ambiguous enough all the other agents made bets on if they were actually together or not. Tex just watched them from the corner of her eye, could hear them talking softly without being able to make out the words, could see them occasionally touch in a way that betrayed the truth. They hadn't made that step. Not yet. Not for lack of wanting. When York tilted his head and grinned, it wasn't the boyish cheek he showed the world but something that almost approached shyness. A sort of puppy-dog sweetness that said he'd be anything Carolina needed, wanted, if she'd only say yes. When Carolina's hand brushed his arm, his knee, his fingers, it had a hesitant intimacy of someone unsure if she could have what she wanted. If she could even allow herself to want it.
It really pissed Tex off to see it. She'd modeled her life on the idea of know exactly what she wanted and doing what it took to get it and though she'd never admit it out loud, Tex thought Carolina had the skill and strength to do the same. Except, apparently, when it came to York.
She could ignore them. Just tell herself that it was none of her business and go about doing her thing while those two danced around each other and hoped their situation resolved itself without having to put themselves out on a limb. She could do this, but Tex had to make sure York remembered they had training later and, really, if she was going to do it she may as well have fun with it.
So Tex went over to the couch that the two were sitting on and leaned over York's shoulder, hands running down his chest in a blatant caress, feeling the planes of his abdomen and curves of muscles shaped against her palms. He didn't have the best body in the program but it was certain one worth appreciating. York was so still under Tex that it scarcely felt like he was breathing. Carolina's jaw clenched hard and her expression locked tight but when Tex caught her eyes they had a cold fury like a volcano burning under ice.
Tex just smiled a cruel smile at her and leaned down so her lips brushed York's ear as she spoke loud enough for Carolina to hear, "I'm looking forward to seeing you tonight." And, because she couldn't resist the temptation, took his earlobe between her lips and sucked. He yelped and Tex could feel his heart racing against her palms before she turned away. She could hear York babbling incoherent excuses as she left the room.
Despite her respect for the man, Tex had no real desire to sleep with York. But if having him was one more thing she beat Carolina at, well… Tex was okay with that.
