Just so you know, the title and three drabbles really have nothing to do with each other asides from coming from the same source material.
Title: Every Exit Being an Entrance
Fandom: Red vs Blue
Rating: PG
Word Count: 472
Characters: York, Wash, Carolina
Summary: Three drabbles inspired by three passages from Tom Stoppard's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead.
---
"There must have been a moment, at the beginning, where we could have said – no. But somehow we missed it."
York tries to remember how it all started. How everything that made sense cascaded together until it became an avalanche of fucked up. Sometimes, at night when he's not watching Carolina trying not to fall apart at the seams or explaining to Wash what's real and what's not and pretending he doesn't see everyone else slowly coming undone in their own ways, York tries to retrace the decisions that led him to this exact moment. He tries to figure out how 'yes' became 'please no' and 'let's go' turned into 'come back, come back, please come back'.
He tries to think of a point when he could have stopped it, should have stopped it, but all he comes up with is this moment when it's all gone to hell.
---
---
"Inside where nothing shows, I am the essence of a man spinning double-headed coins, and betting against himself in private atonement for an unremembered past."
There's a path that runs through Blue Base, taken so regularly dirt is embedded into the floor. Neither Tucker nor Caboose talk about it, though, not even when the path passes by the doors of their quarters or the places they spend the most time, pausing there just long enough to check up on them. If the Reds have noticed that it also wanders near them, they don't mention it.
Wash lingers on that path like the ghosts that still sometimes echoes in his head, the ones he tried to smother down or ignore or that filled his head with ghosts of their own until he was a useless wreck when everyone needed him the most.
But his eyes are open now and his mind is clear and he walks that path to ensure he doesn't miss anything again.

"If we have a destiny, then so had he- and if this is ours, then that was his- and if there are no explanations for us, then let there be none for him."
She flips through the names, one by one, when she stops.
New York…KIA
Wyoming…KIA
She only stops to rest and she should be sleeping but she can't fall asleep because her mind never stops and she's afraid of what will happen when she doesn't reign in tightly the things it thinks,
North Dakota...KIA
South Dakota…KIA
the things it remembers,
Connecticut…KIA
Maine…KIA
the things she's lost. That they've all lost.
Texas…MIA
Washington…MIA
She flips through the names over and over and doesn't think, doesn't rest, until the letters are burnt into her eyes and her body refuses to stay stopped. She knows where she has to go. She knows what she has to do.
Carolina…ACTIVE
She'll rest when it's finally over.
