I can't even explain the origins of this. But I can say there's a sequel.

Title: The Day After
Fandom: Red vs Blue
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 876
Characters: York, North, Wash, CT, Carolina
Summary: In which the rumor mill demands a sacrifice.

God. End of the day. Finally. York thought it would never come. Of course the fact he'd been dragging ass through the day's training was his own fault, but that was beside the point. He stifled a yawn in his helmet and debated on whether to skip dinner and just sleep or not.

A hand slapped down hard against his back followed by North's cheery, "Hey, York!"

York stumbled a step or two before catching himself and turning around.

By North's side, Wash crossed his arms and tilted his head. "Man, you really are out of it."

"Told ya," the taller Freelancer said, "he nearly fell asleep during the training brief."

York chuckled ruefully, "Yeah, sorry. Didn't get a lot of sleep last night."

The moment he said that, York could feel the other two focusing on him like lasers through their visors. "Oh really?" Wash asked pointedly, "Because I recall you getting out of poker night to turn in early."

"Uh..." crap. "Well, I tried but, you know, didn't, uh, didn't... really work out."

"So what were you doing that didn't get you a lot of sleep?"

His eyes darted wildly, safely hidden by his helmet. "Um, trying to sleep?"

"Trying to sleep where?" A smug smirk was audible on North's voice. "Because Maine said your rack was empty when he joined us."

York could feel the metaphorical trap closing on him. "Maine's back from his mission? Already?"

"You must've been out of it if you didn't see that hulk crashed out in your quarters this morning."

"Or maybe you never went back to your quarters..."

They stood there, the silent prompt stretched between them like a giant neon sign. York automatically put his hands up, "If you think I was with Connie or South-"

North snorted, "We know you weren't. They were playing poker with us. But you know who wasn't?"

"Wyoming?"

North dropped his head into his hand and laughed while Wash's helmet did that 'don't play stupid' tilt. "He was there too, actually. Hopefully you'd have better taste anyway."

"And considering Carolina was also missing during your not-sleeping-early-night..."

Caught, York was left spluttering. "We didn't- I mean, it wasn't-"

Armored boots tromped down the hall, carrying the subject of speculation with them. As Carolina drew nearer, she nodded her head at the group. "Wash. North." Her voice then took on the barest hint of warmth, "York."

"Uh," he half raised his hand to wave vaguely, "hi."

Her gaze lingered for a moment before she turned away, walking off in strong, purposeful strides. Wash and North watched her go, noticing an extra sway to her hips they'd never seen before. They whirled on York.

"Oh my god."

"Seriously?"

"Nothing happened!" York protested.

"Oh my god."

"Did you really-"

"We might've- I mean- no!"

"Oh my god."

"All we did was talk!"

"About what?"

"It... none of your business!"

"Anyone tell you you're a terrible liar?"

"Oh my god."

"Hey," Connie called out as she approached them. "What are you guys getting so worked up about?"

"Oh my god."

"And what broke North?"

Before York could stop him, Wash blurted out, "York slept with Carolina."

"No I didn't!"

Connie snorted, "Of course he didn't. You'd need a flamethrower to get between her legs."

York shot back indignantly, "Hardly."

The three looked at him. York slapped a hand to his visor.

"Oh my god."

"You did sleep with her."

"Congratulations, I guess?"

A second hand joined the first on his helmet and York muttered, "I hate everything."

~*~*~*~

"You know, you could've helped me out." It was the first thing York said as he took off his helmet and sat next to Carolina on the vacant observation deck. The same one they'd spent most of the previous night on, talking and watching the nebula swirl around the ship. "I know you knew what they were cornering me about."

"Sorry," Carolina didn't look the least bit repentant but her grin was beautiful. "You're cute when you're flustered."

"Well, now thanks to you everyone in the Project is going to think we're sleeping together by the end of the week."

"Is that such a bad thing?"

York blinked owlishly, "Wait, what?"

All of the sudden there was an arm braced on the other side of his body and Carolina was leaning in so close York's brain practically shorted out. "Unless you're really that uninterested in having sex with me one day."

He swallowed hard and managed with a minimal amount of stuttering, "Have you been thinking about this as much as I have today?"

Carolina's "Maybe" was whispered across his lips as she closed in for their second kiss in as many days. His mouth opened against hers, drawing her in until she was straddling his lap, gloved fingers in his hair and his hands clutching the curve of her waist desperately.

When they parted, Carolina's eyes had a hunger that York wanted to fall into. A woman does indeed have needs... "So," he tried to cover his eagerness with a suave grin that failed at making him look like anything other than an excited little boy, "when does 'one day' happen?"

She shoved him sideways across the bench, nimble hands working at his armor. "Right now."

To quote North:

Oh my god!

THAT WAS AWESOME!!! I can't stop laughing, I actually have tears in my eyes from laughing so hard! On one hand: poor York (but he really is cute flustered) on the other hand: way to go York!

And extra yeah for sequel!
