No clue what happened to this. It start off relatively lighthearted and then ended up being kind of wangsty. Not sure if I like it but I can't think of another ending, so here it is.

Title: Lost in Gray
Fandom: Thundercats 2011
Rating: PG
Word Count: 702
Characters: Lion-O, Tygra, Cheetara, background Panthro and Wilykittens
Summary: Takes place between the first two scenes of S01E09 Berbils. The Thundercats find themselves cold, wet and stuck.

"You sure you don't want any help? I'm not so bad with technology myself, you know. I'm sure if we worked together we could-"

The look Panthro gave him said 'You may be my king but if you touch my tank I will bite your hand off'. Lion-O prudently backed away with a, "I'll... give you some space to work, then."

Tygra grinned at his approaching brother, "And that's why the rest of us are over here." He'd managed to find a spot and some wood dry enough to start a fire, sheltered by overlapping mushroom caps. A little further away Cheetara and the kittens were airing out the smoke-saturated cloaks and blankets. Tygra opened his mouth to say something but an explosion of clangs and indecipherable-but-still-obviously-swearing from Panthro interrupted him. "I was going to ask what the verdict was, but I think it's safe to assume we're going to be here for a while."

"That's my best guess." Lion-O took a seat opposite Tygra, leaning against a smooth, mildly chilly stalk. He wished all the fabric didn't soak up that acrid stench- they all could have used the extra layers. Snarf curled up against a thigh like a little beacon of warmth and Lion-O petted him gratefully. "It's just been one setback after another. I'm worried about how much of a head start Mumm-Ra has."

By that time Cheetara joined the two. Tygra looked back and watched Wilykat and Wilykit scamper up a mushroom and disappear over the cap. "How're the kittens?"

"Wet, miserable and cold. Just like everyone else."

"They could come down to the fire." As meager as it was.

"They prefer being off the ground and out of sight." She shook the rain from her hair before sitting next to Tygra. "It's part of their survival instinct." There was a very pointed silence and when Cheetara looked up Tygra had an equally pointed look. She gave him a half-smirk, "Don't get cocky. You're just a better windbreaker."

He flashed a mega-watt smile, "I'd never complain about a beautiful woman wanting me for my body." Cheetara snorted and Lion-O rolled his eyes hard.

The three listened to Panthro banging around some more and asides from that they sat quietly in their waterlogged moral. Any attempts to plan their next move while the ThunderTank was out of commission was- to put it ironically -just spinning their wheels.

A sudden gust of wind blew sideways making the fire danced alarmingly and Lion-O suddenly realize he had zoned out long enough for the faded pale of the sky to turn into an overcast night. He also realized that Tygra and Cheetara were talking quietly together, too quiet for Lion-O to make out the words. When he looked over the fire, their heads were tilted in close. It made the fur between the young king's shoulders bunch but at least there were no flirtatious grins or fond looks. Lion-O cleared his throat to get their attention.

"What're you guys talking about?"

They looked at him, surprised at the sudden interjection but Tygra answered as he leaned forward to poke a twig into the fire, "We're thinking if the tank isn't fixed in the morning, some of us should probably scout ahead. Preferably for a town, but any kind of shelter or food will do."

"The last of our rations are gone," Cheetara added, "and we can't afford to get sick at this point. It'd be more productive than sitting around aimlessly, anyway."

Lion-O nodded. "True enough. We'll ask Panthro for a status update in the morning, then. If he thinks there's time for it while he repairs, the three of us will head out."

They lapsed into another silence. This time Wilykit filled it with a somber melody. The wind blew again, hard enough to make Lion-O shiver. He heard a hiss and Tygra asked, "Cold?"

Cheetara wrapped her arms tight around herself, knees tucked against her chest. "You're a terrible windbreaker."

"I'm not a bad heater if you felt like moving in a little closer."

"Keep hoping, your majesty."

The flirtatious grins were back again and even though Lion-O watched them from over the fire, he felt completely isolated from their world.

Aw. I actually missed the new ep, sigh. But this was very sweet in a Tygra/Cheetara way, and angsty for Liono. Third wheel, heavy lies the head that wears the crown kind of way.

Hahahaha! I wondered if Cheetara's choice of sitting with Tygra - she's still facing away from him; it's not THAT cozy - was more to do with him being bigger and therefore warmer. XD

And good point about the Wileys' survival instincts. I love that they're kinda feral. [Also hilariously spun in this ep. XD]

This is lovely cute- and the sensible things I'd really like to see in the series, but hey. It's not necessarily made entirely for the older kids. I'm really diggin your presentation of Cheetara; I can definitely see her and Tygra 'pushing' each other. We'll see how it turns out. I also love how you kept the snarky, flirty tiger we met in the premiere! I want him back dangit!

I love snarky, flirty Tygra so much. And given Cheetara's characterization (what little actual personalization we've been given so far), I could see her snarking back at him and god knows I adore characters that tease each other.
