I actually don't remember what was going on here except that this is the first time Fireflight sees Sandstorm without his battlemask.

Fireflight really didn't know what to expect- if Sandstorm's smile was anything to go off of his face should be normal. 'Normal' would have been putting it mildly. The first thing Fireflight thought was that Sandstorm was absolutely handsome. He didn't have the classic beauty of the twins or was gorgeously exotic like Tracks, but whoever constructed Sandstorm wanted to ensure that smooth black face got more than just passing attention.

The second thing Fireflight realized was that Sandstorm's expression was angry and hurt and afraid. Which made him realize how much easier it was to know what Sandstorm was thinking and feeling without the battlemask. It took him a moment longer to realize it was easier to read Sandstorm than anyone else Fireflight knew.

This happens shortly after Sandstorm tells Fireflight about his history and Fireflight, having all this information dumped on to him, needs some time to sort it all out. While he didn't really consider leaving Sandstorm over it, his conviction was slightly shaken and he went to talk to Smokescreen about it.

"You have an idea of what he's like."

"Some idea, yes."

"So do you... do you think he's worth it?"

Smokescreen turned, putting a hand to the Aerialbot's shoulder. "Let me put it this way: Sandstorm doesn't think he deserves it. Not another chance, not love and certainly not you. But," he added quickly, "I think maybe the ones that deserve those things the least are the ones that need it the most." His smile was small and warm and wanting very much the best for his old friend. "Even if he doesn't deserve it, I don't doubt he'll appreciate it more than the most deserving could ever hope to."

Fireflight's hand covered his with a grateful squeeze. "Thank you."

"Believe me, I'm the one that's thankful."

When Fireflight comes back and says he accepts all Sandstorm has done and loves him regardless, this occurs. It should be noted that the only other person Sandstorm had ever told was Roadbuster while Sandstorm was undergoing a panic attack when the two had been capture and tortured by Decepticons.

It was strange, the feeling coiling around Sandstorm's internals. When he told Roadbuster- a flurry of words and anger flung out in a raging panic attack, not knowing who he was fighting or what he was saying, trapped in a nightmare memory -it felt like an admission of weakness. Telling Fireflight was more... not closure, but something had settled inside of him. Suddenly it felt as if this was no longer something he needed to hide, no secret he had to burden himself with.

It was okay, now. He said it and Fireflight hadn't rejected him, hadn't judged him and it was okay. Sandstorm didn't feel any more comfortable reflecting on his past but he no longer had to be afraid it would come tumbling out of him again when he was at his worst.

I get afraid if it was just him and Flight but "angry and hurt"? was somebody else there when Sandy took of his battlemask?

the last two: *shakes head* and I thought I couldn't fall for this pairing any further. <3

He might've been unmasked without permission? I honestly don't remember the circumstances at all though I do remember plotting something out where Sandstorm was severely injured enough that the mask was removed/too damaged but Topspin put his visor on Sandstorm because he knows it's a 'thing' so... I dunno what's going on here :/
