Summary: Post-Generation Lost. They just want to make sure Gavril knows what he's getting into.



"No. No. No. Ugh- what was I even thinking? Agh!" Beatriz thumped her head against the wall next to her closet. "Tora- what happened to me? I used to have taste, dammit! Why is everything I own hideous?"

"You also used to date more often," Tora said mildly, sitting on her best friend's bed.

Beatriz took out a filmy, sparkly top and shook it at Tora. "The lack of dating options does not excuse a monstrosity like this!"

"Well... I guess there's only one thing to do."

"Shoot myself?"

"Go shopping."

Tora suddenly found Beatriz's arm linked in hers, dragging her to the door. "That is a splendid idea. I feel better already."

"So this is the guy, huh?"

"Yup."

"He's the one with the brass balls?"

"Yup."

"Don't move for a sec, Ruskie. I gotta know the face I'll be beating in if you ever hurt Bea."

Gavril looked up at the snarling faces around him- from Booster to the recently arrived Green Lantern to Captain Atom a little ways off. Gavril continued to look at them in absolute confusion.

He had no clue what was going on. All Gavril knew was that not an hour after he and Beatriz agreed to a first date, Captain Atom had pulled him aside to talk about all the pain and loss she had gone through and if Gavril added on to that, he was going to kick his Ruskie ass. Not half an hour later, Booster pulled him aside and said how passionate and loyal Beatriz was and if Gavril upset her, he was going to kick his ass. Then, practically out of nowhere, the Green Lantern Guy Gardner came in, just scowled and made it clear he was just waiting for an excuse to kick Gavril's ass.

Tentatively he raised his hand.

Eyebrows shot up. "Seriously?" Gardner barked, "Are we in grade school? What?"

"Is this American tradition I do not know?" Gavril asked honestly. "Why threaten beating me when, if I hurt Beatriz, she will set me on fire?"

"Because," Booster said without missing a beat, "after she's set you on fire and we come in to beat you while you're all crispy and twitching, we can say we warned you."

There was an entire seeing-off party along with some last minute advice that generally fell into two categories: "Bea, try not to traumatize him on the first date" and "We are watching you, bucko". And, just before the daters left, Tora went up to Gavril and brushed some invisible dust off his collar.

"Beatriz is my best friend," she said, just low enough for him to hear. "All she has to do is ask one and I will freeze and snap it off. And you know exactly what part I'm talking about."

Gavril just gave a wary little smile before happily letting Beatriz tug him out the door. Once safely in a taxi he had to say, "You have very loyal friends."

Beatriz just laughed and leaned into his side. "I'm pretty sure I know what they've been saying to you and the fact you can still say that with a straight face makes me think you have nothing to worry about."
