[drabble][DCU, Hal, Milagro, G] Willpower
Mar. 25th, 2010 11:54 amTitle: Willpower
Fandom: DCU
Rating: G
Word Count: 404
Characters: Hal, Milagro, Guy in the background
Summary: Roughly ten or so years in the future. When a Lantern retires, someone else fills their spot.
He’s doing this to get Guy to shut up. Ever since Hal decided he’s old enough to retire (it has nothing to do with hits on the head, no matter how many times or how loudly Guy says it) his fellow Lantern had been adamant about who he should choose as a successor. So Hal agreed to meet with the prospective new Lantern to get him to stop and now that he’s there and talking to her all Hal can think is ‘she’s so young’ and ‘this can’t be a good idea’.
So- okay, she’s only a couple years younger than Kyle was when he got his ring and, thanks to her brother (and Guy letting her practice with his ring on the downlow), was already well aware of superheroing, Green Lanterns and all that it entailed. She has potential, but she’s still so young.
Guy’s just standing there, grinning like he knows how this is all going to play out and Hal’s not looking forward to all the yelling that’s going to happen when he doesn’t agree to this. He stifles a sigh and turns back to the Lantern-hopeful and says, “What about your brother? You know his scarab and our rings don’t get along. Will you be able to deal with splitting headaches every time you see him?”
“Won’t happen.”
Hal blinks. “Sorry?”
“I won’t get headaches,” Milagro said, jaw jutting out in a quintessential stubborn-Guy expression, “and it won’t have a problem with Jaime’s scarab.”
“Why wouldn’t it?”
“Because I’ll tell it not to. The rings work on willpower, right? It does what I tell it do, right? So I’ll tell it not to freak out over Jaime until it won’t. And it won’t.”
Hal looks down at her and sees the steel in her eyes, sees the simplicity in what she says and how she believes in every single word of it and will not accept any compromise. Guy’s grin is now a proud smile, like he knows Hal finally sees what he’s been seeing for so long and Hal looks at her and can’t think of a damn thing in the universe that can stop her.
So he sticks out his hand and says, “I’ll have to talk to your parents about this first, of course, but if they agree,” Milagro grabs his hand with a big, excited grin and Hal smiles proudly at her, “welcome to the Corps.”

If this doesn't happen, I curse DC! *rolls away*

Date: 2010-04-25 07:04 am (UTC)And because this can no longer happen in canon (unless they change their 'dead is dead' tune and do some major groveling D<) I therefore curse DC now.

Date: 2010-04-25 07:54 pm (UTC)Since I am not really following what's happening in DC right now, I'll ignore this event in my headcanon and will think of Damian-Milagro-Lian as possible Teen Titans.
