Idiot. That big, stupid idiot.

Not like he was sitting there worrying about the big stupid idiot because he wasn’t worrying. Chopper just said someone needed to watch over him just incase he relapsed and he was the only one not doing anything so that’s why he was at the bedside. Not because he was worried.

The big stupid idiot.

His fists clenched the material of his pants and his heel tapped against the deck. Not out of anxiety, no matter what those weird looks and sly smiles he got from the girls said. He was just bored. Because watching the brainless lug sprawled on the bed, snoring, drooling, was just so unimaginably dull. Assuming he was here because of a near-death experience was just ignorant.

Just because the moron had no regard for his own health and no one else seemed to care too much (or they just got used to it because between him and Luffy they even got Chopper saying sleeping and eating lots of meat was a viable medical solution) didn’t mean he was left caring. Because if the big stupid idiot wanted to go around getting himself shot or slashed or crushed or poisoned or whatever the hell else he suddenly decides is a fun way to get bedridden for a day, he could go right ahead and do it. He didn’t care.

The idiot suddenly yawned and stretched out an arm like he wasn’t just back on the precipice of death (he probably had a vacation home there. the big stupid idiot) and he glared down as eyes creaked open.

“Morn’n.” He grumbled in that stupid caveman way of his. He just glared harder until the idiot blinked the rest of the sleep from his eyes and looked up in stupid confusion. “What?”

His face screwed up fiercely and all that came out of his mouth was, “You’re a big stupid idiot!”

The oaf smiled up at him- smiled at him! –and put a hand to the boy’s head, ruffling his hair. “Don’t worry, kid.” He said gently. “I’m not leavin’ you or your sister anytime soon. Not until I know your ero-father isn’t going to pervert you any.”

He just kept glaring and kept thinking he was a big, stupid idiot.

At least he was alive.
