Title: The Devil With a Handgun: Twenty Truths About Hiruma Youichi
Fandom: Eyeshield 21
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 1254
Characters: Hiruma
Summary: [livejournal.com profile] tsukishine wanted me to do more Hiruma. And I’m out of practice… Inspired by [livejournal.com profile] 20_truths and [livejournal.com profile] 20_souls

20. Hiruma had, under no circumstances, doubted they would win the Christmas Bowl at some point. It was a carnal truth, it was written in the fucking stars. His only obstacle was making sure the other teams knew about it.

19. Most people would seethe at the thought of being on the laughing stock of a high school football team. The Devil Bats see Hiruma not bothered a whit by this and are simultaneously calmed and fired up by this fact. This man was giving them the chance to show their stuff, giving them the chance to jam those words in those smug faces.

Actually, Hiruma despises the shit-talking done about his team. But he fucking lives for those dumbfounded expressions when the other teams get their asses handed to them.

18. Hiruma knew the team wondered about his home life behind his back (in all honesty, Hiruma had no back as he made sure he knew about everything) and he knew they keep trying to shadow him back home. Only Kurita and Musashi had ever seen Hiruma’s house and they warned the others not to try to follow him.

Hiruma hoped they learn to listen soon. He was going through modified Claymores faster than he’d like.

17. When Hiruma was still in primary school one of his teachers threatened to hold him back because he never brought in his homework. It was by accident he came across that same teacher leaving his neighbor’s house while the lady’s husband at work.

Everything else just happened from there.

16. The first time Hiruma picked up a firearm it was a shotgun. The first time he fired a firearm the shotgun knocked out his last two baby teeth.

He picked up every weapon he could after that. Nothing got away with knocking him on his ass, after all.

15. Every Thursday there’d always be a box of crème puffs on the table in the clubhouse after practice. Mamori thought Kurita left them there in case she wanted some. No one had to ask to know she thought they were heavenly because she had no talent in hiding her emotions. Hiruma always made sure to have a good seat on Thursdays.

14. When he got into high school, most of the teachers got on his case about having his ears pierced. They were also certain that his haired was bleached. After the first day the teachers left him alone. There was something to be said about a kid that got a referral from his last school.

13. As a child, Hiruma wasn’t particularly active. He liked games like chess and mahjong and go and othello. It was only when he got tired of watching his class lose during the school festivals that he finally decided to put his intelligence to use. Ever since then, everyone tried to get a piece of his brain and it wasn’t until football came along- a sport built on intelligence –that he stopped regretting helping out.

12. Hiruma knew he wasn’t very strong or fast and he couldn’t do much against another team’s line. But he’d abuse his body to hell and back if it got them even one yard closer to the goal.

11. Surprisingly enough Hiruma didn’t think of himself as a genius. He just thought he was well educated, thought about things differently than other high schoolers. He read extensively- from Sun Tzu to Jung to psychological exposés. Anything dealing with tactics and thought and human nature he fed off of. He was a great thinker not because he was a genius but because everyone else thought so linearly.

10. Hiruma actually dreads the thought about playing football in college or professionally because there were so many people just asking to be taken advantage of.

9. If Hiruma had to own up to one fear it would be failing. Not just failing, but failing because he couldn’t find a way out. Failing because everything would be put on him and the team would be looking for him to lead them and him to save them and he wouldn’t be able to do it.

A year ago he would’ve snapped at the fucking manager, but now he was glad as anything for another pair of eyes and a brain to go with it.

8. Once Monta went up to him and asked if Hiruma had any ties with the yakuza. The rest of the team huddled around for the answer and Hiruma looked at each one in turn. He gave them the devil’s grin as said, ‘Wouldn’t you like to know?’ before walking off.

He wouldn’t admit it to anyone else, but he was going to miss them when he graduated. Their rampant stupidity was far too fun.

7. People would ask where Hiruma got Cereberus and Hiruma would tell them he gave his soul to the fucking devil for one of his hellhounds. Really, though, he’d accidentally ran over a pup on his bike once. He felt guilty and took care of it until the bones mended. He just forgot to let the pup go afterward.

6. He met Kurita and Musashi in secondary school. Kurita was the first one that didn’t fear him or give him a reason to threaten his fatass. Musashi was the second one who didn’t fear him, but was the only one with the balls to tell him if what he was doing was stupid.

Hiruma wouldn’t trade either of them for the world.

5. The third person that didn’t fear him was Mamori. She was constantly challenging him and damned if he didn’t find it all intriguing. Except for when she was inadvertently undermining him. Then he got nasty.

She didn’t fear him but he liked seeing her eyes go wide and her mouth click shut. Except for when it made something inside twinge.

4. The fourth person was Suzuna, but she was a sneaky little devil in her own right. The first time she called him You-ni, Hiruma lost his train of thought. He just looked at her for a second before just waving it off. No one ever had the balls to give him a nickname before. And seeing jaws drop whenever people heard her call him You-ni amused the hell out of him.

3. When Musashi dropped out to help out his family, Hiruma couldn’t hold it against him. He wanted to, he wanted to hate him and curse at him and kick his ass. But then Musashi met him on the way back from school and before he could even apologize Hiruma just told him to shut the fuck up and get them some beer.

2. He worried, sometimes, about what would happen to the team after he left. He didn’t want to think about them losing to undeserving teams, not being able to figure out what they were supposed to do. He knew he should be training another quarterback before he left, but he didn’t like the idea of someone waiting on the benches for him to relinquish his grip on the team. Trying to wrestle away control and leadership.

And then he started seeing how the team watched out for each other, encourage each other, egged each other on, beat the shit out of each other if they were caught slacking.

Hn. Maybe he’d just show someone how to throw the ball.

1. Hiruma, under no condition, doubted they would ever win the Christmas Bowl. But it still surprised the shit out of him when they did.
