Title: Unforeseen Side Effects
Fandom: Bleach
Rating: G
Word Count: 299
Characters: Isshin, Ichigo
Summary: Isshin’s special little boy just got more special.
Isshin turned at the sound of the door creaking open. Slowly a tiny hand slipped through the crack, followed shortly after by the equally small face of his son. The man smiled gently.
“What’s the matter, Ichigo? Can’t sleep?”
The boy shook his head.
“Well c’mere.” He held his arms out. Ichigo immediately rushed in to be scooped up. “What’s wrong then, huh?”
“Didn’ wanna wake up Mom.” Ichigo mumbled softly.
“Well. Since Daddy’s up, he’ll help you out. That okay?” He ruffled Ichigo’s bright hair. The boy looked up, tugging on his father’s sleeve.
“Too scared ta sleep. There’s a man in my room.”
“A man?” Masaki had talked about children being scared of boogey men before but this was the first time Isshin had to deal with it. “Let’s go have a looksee, huh? Maybe Daddy can scare him away.”
“Really?” Isshin cradled Ichigo in one arm, ruing the day his little boy would get too big to do so. “Mom says so, too, but he always comes back.”
How silly and charming! That worry-wart Kisuke, thinking that having children would be a problem! How could you not be enamored by such an innocent expression so trusting and adorably scared?
Isshin pushed open the door to Ichigo’s room. “There! See, Ichigo? There’s no one-“
He cut himself off. A ghost hovered over Ichigo’s bed- a racecar because he looked so cute in it –and waved at the father and son. Isshin’s jaw clicked and he looked down at his boy, burrowing his head in his father’s chest but casting a fearful eye at the ghost.
Isshin cleared his throat. “Do you still see anyone here, Ichigo?” The boy nodded. Oh boy. Isshin put a hand over his mouth. Things were gonna get tricky from here on out.
