Title: Morning Routine
Fandom: Naruto
Rating: G
Word Count: 382
Characters: Kurenai, Asuma
Summary: Routine through post-it notes.

Because the life of a ninja had a tendency toward the chaotic, Kurenai took organization and routine wherever she could. It had a calming sort of quality to it and after she finally agreed to move in with Asuma (after much begging and puppy eyes and having Team 10 do a dramatic poetry reading to her) she thought she’d be forced to strangle the man. As it was, not even a month had passed before they had fallen into at least a morning routine.

And that was why, three months later, Kurenai was now having a problem. Three months of routine and suddenly Kurenai found herself alone in their bed while Asuma was preparing for a late night mission. It was the most restless sleep she’d gotten in years.

Waking up the next morning, Kurenai pulled the blanket over her head, cursing at her broken routine. That was when she felt something on her shoulder. Reaching back, she pulled off a post-it note (an attempt to get Asuma organized) and in Asuma’s sloppy writing was the word ‘Morning’.

(Finally deciding it was time to wake up, she would give his head a little shove. ‘Wake up.’

He’d grumble in response before placing a kiss on her shoulder and mumble out ‘morning’.
)

Smiling to herself, Kurenai got up for her morning shower. Returning to the bedroom, she saw another note on Asuma’s pillow.

(Drying her hair, she’d find him still sprawled on the bed. ‘Come on. Get up.’

‘Don’t wanna.’

She’d grab his arms and pull. ‘Up!’
)

In the kitchen, another sat by his chair and his morning smoke.

(‘What do you want for breakfast?’

‘Coffee. Black.’
)

And, as she left the house, a final note was tacked up on the door.

(He’d lean over and place a kiss against her cheek. ‘See you tonight.’)

As she went through her day, Kurenai couldn’t keep the fond smile off her face. And when she returned home for the evening, she found Asuma already asleep in their bed. And when Asuma woke up in the morning, he found Kurenai tucked securely under him and a post-it note on his forehead.

(Sometimes, when she was especially pleased with the day in general, she’d give him a kiss on the forehead and tell him ‘I love you’.)
