Even though I want to think up a better one, I like the title.
Title: Tears Like Lies

In response to:
naruto100’s My Not So Happy End challenge
Summary: Because I was just recently reminded of my love for Asuma and Kurenai
When she was three months along Kurenai was hit with a poison jutsu; it was sealed within ten minutes of being seen. It was a jutsu that carried a dormant virus that, while not dangerous, couldn’t be rid of.
When she was seven months along the dormant virus woke up.
“Due to the strain of carrying. If we try to reseal it, the stress will cause a miscarriage. If we try to save the baby, she will die.”
Asuma wrung his hands together and- though the words were laced with bile as they strained between his teeth –he chose the child. Tsunade herself volunteered for the operation and Asuma couldn’t bare to watch.
Kurenai was still beautiful the last time he got to see her.
“I’m sorry.” She told him in that outright way she said everything. “I should have been more careful.”
And just he smiled through his tears like lies.
“The baby…” her voice sighed and her face paled. “Is the baby okay?”
He pressed a kiss to her knuckles and helplessly watched her die. “Yes.” Was his broken answer.
And when he stood in front of her grave, he begged for forgiveness before his wife that died too early and his child that never lived.
