I haven't looked into any Injustice stuff (honestly i'm only 80% certain the reference comes from the injustice 2 comic) so don't mind the errors.
Title: Business Sense
Fandom: DCU
Rating: PG
Word Count: 416
Characters: Jaime, Booster
Summary: A conversation regarding Booster's newly gifted business.
Jaime waited until Skeets floated back around the corner, giving him permission to check up on Booster. The man was sitting on the floor, his cowl pulled back, eyes and nose still red from crying. Jaime sat next to him, his armor pulling away from his face. "How're you doing?" He asked quietly.
Boost laughed wetly. "I'm wondering what the hell was he thinking. Leaving me his company? Me?" He sniffed and wiped at his nose with the back of a hand. "I'm shit at business, he knows this."
"Maybe he's not expecting you to run it?" Jaime said. It wasn't like any of them had time to sit in on board meetings and make decisions about growth projections or whatever it was business people did. "Maybe he's giving it to you so you can just reap the benefits. Kind of like an owner for a sports team."
"I'm pretty sure they do more than get the profits."
"Like what?"
Booster thought, mouth twisting at the absurdity of what he was pondering and also because it seemed ridiculous that neither of them knew this. "I'm sure they do things like... paychecks and hiring general managers and deal with sponsorships."
"Well, that sounds kinda up your alley. You've done sponsorships and advertisements a lot, right? So you probably have an idea of what to look out for."
"I guess. I've had enough people screw me over in the past," Booster said wryly. "Part of the reason why 'business' is the only partnership me and Ted never went for. I don't have a head for money and business jargon confuses me."
"But still, it's not like you're just doing it for the money." Jaime leaned back on his hands, legs stretched out. "You're pretty picky about who you sign with."
"Sure. Like I said, I got screwed over a lot before. I've figured out what to look for, what to ask."
"So you could apply that to Kord Industries, right?"
He gave Jaime a sideways look. "You know, most people don't like how I embrace commercialism."
"That's when you were selling your image as a hero. For a business though, especially a business that helps innovate gear for heroes that aren't tech geniuses, I doubt they'd have a problem with it. And if they do," Jaime sniffed, lifting his nose in the air and said in his most dismissive tone, "fuck 'em. It's your business, not theirs."
For the first time in a long, long while, Booster laughed.
