Being Thanksgiving here in the US and all, I'll be heading down to my dad's for the next two days so I'm putting up this now, skipping a post on Thursday and Friday, and then putting up two on Saturday when I get back home. So happy food-coma day to those of you that get it!
Title: Two Timer
Fandom: Batman: Brave and the Bold
Rating: G
Word Count: 449
Characters: Ted, Booster, Bruce
In Response to: 30 days of Boostle - rivalry
Summary: It's like the Archie Syndrome, but with superheroes.
Everyone knows the story. The one where some guy has a date with two different women at the same time in the same restaurant. So he keeps running back and forth between his dates, spending a few moments with each before he's making excuses and running off and he generally screws everything up because he was stupid enough to agree to both dates in the first place. Everyone knows that one, right?
Ted has no idea how if happened, but that's what his life suddenly feels like. Except it's not just one date, it's more like every other day. He should really just bite the bullet and tell them but every time he tries he chickens out. Which leaves him getting himself smack-dab into situations like this, standing on a rooftop with an irate person talking in his ear.
"/Everything's been set up for the last half hour- what's taking you so long?/"
Ted is several polite steps away from his partner for the night as he talks to the person on the line. "Set up? What is? What for?"
"/For you. Where are you?/"
He tries to keep his face schooled, "I'm out on patrol."
"/What- now? Ted/," and Ted can already tell he's got some industrial-strength groveling to do before he'll be forgiven, "/this was our thing!/"
Izzawha? "We have a thing?"
"/Uh- yeah. Every Monday night- you, me, beer and football!/"
Ted's eyes rolled skyward as he thought. "Huh You're right. Can't believe I never noticed that before."
A heavy, unamused sigh sounds in Ted's ear. "/You really are oblivious, aren't you? No wonder Bea said not to waste my time.../"
"Aw, hey Boost- c'mon," Ted darts a quick look at his companion before turning away and dropping his voice. "I'll make it up to you, I promise?"
"/Yeah?/" Came the disbelieving retort. "/How?/"
"Well, what do you want me to do?"
"/Forget patrolling tonight and hang out with me./"
Ted winces at Booster's tone. "What do you want me to do that doesn't have to be done tonight?"
Booster scoffs. "/Oh, I'm sure you'll come up with something. If you don't forget./"
"Look, Booster- I'm sorry."
"/Obviously not sorry enough./"
"It's just Monday night football-"
"/Right/," Booster says flatly, "/that's all this is. Have fun on your patrol, Ted./"
The line abruptly cuts off and Ted just has to sigh, not know what exactly he did wrong. Doesn't matter- he has something slightly more pressing to be worried about. He turns to Batman, rubbing his hands together. "Right- sorry 'bout that. Shall we get going? You said you got that factory blueprints?"
With a grin, Batman holds them up. "Never infiltrate a building without them."
