Title: The Power of (Mis)Communication
Fandom: DCU
Rating: PG
Word Count: 513
Characters: Ted, Booster, Michelle
In Response to: 30 days of Boostle - a secret
Summary: Why settle for the second choice?
It all began with "I want you to meet my sister" which would've been innocuous enough if 1) Booster hadn't been missing for a brief period in time, 2) Booster's inner circle hadn't gone missing with him, and 3) Booster's sister wasn't supposed to be hundreds of years in the future.
But there was Ted, being introduced to an extremely pretty young woman named Michelle who had Booster's eyes and smile and sense of humor. She was, basically, perfect and Ted- as he always did around basically perfect women -flirted shamelessly with her. Which she seemed to find hilarious and flirted right back- bonus!
After lunch the three retired to the living room. Booster plopped down on the sofa with Ted on one side and Michelle on the big, plush chair nearby, her legs tucked under her. Ted chatted and teased her, enjoying the familiar way her eyes glittered and loving the fact she had Booster's dimples when she laughed. When she cupped her chin in one hand and teased right back, it was almost exactly what Ted always wanted.
"So what'd you say," Ted asked her grandly as he kicked his legs over Booster's lap, "you and I paint the town red tonight?"
She laughed, nose wrinkling that same way Booster's did when he couldn't help but encourage Ted's over-the-topness. "That's sweet, but I try not to make it a habit of dating my brother's boyfriends."
Ted's eyes popped wide. "Your brother's whats?"
From over his shoulder came "Sheeeeel," like a growl.
Michelle narrowed her eyes right back at Booster, "Oh, so it's my fault you apparently never told him?"
"Wait wait wait," Ted waved his hands as he brought his feet back to the floor. Looking at his best friend he asked, "I'm your boyfriend?"
Booster's cheeks colored and he said guiltily, "Well... not officially."
"You mean you're attracted to me?"
"...a little."
"A lot," Michelle corrected, "you should hear the way he talks on and on about you."
"Shel!"
"You mean I could've been having sex with the hottest guy in spandex all this time?" Ted blurted out. He back handed Booster's shoulder. "You are so making up for that."
Booster's mouth worked silently. Michelle giggled. "Oh, Mikey- I like him."
"I- but- you... you never said anything either!"
Ted gave him a look. "Booster. I touch you. Constantly."
"I thought that was just a quirk of yours!"
He scoffed before scooting over that last inch that was between them. Ted draped an arm around Booster's back, propping his chin on one shoulder. "How often have you seen me do this with Scott?"
"Uh- just- wuh-" Booster babbled unintelligibly until Ted tilted his head up and kissed him. Just a soft, chaste thing, but when Ted pulled back Booster was effectively silenced.
Michelle was already in the doorway saying, "Skeets is going to show me around town, I'll see you boys later!"
Somewhere the front door shut and Ted managed to get out, "So about making up for lost ti-" before Booster shoved him down on the couch and kissed him.
